Position Summary: The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for sourcing and procuring raw materials, components, and services needed for production while negotiating favorable terms with suppliers and ensuring timely deliveries to maintain operational efficiency. They also analyze market trends, evaluate vendor performance, and maintain accurate inventory records to optimize supply chain processes.

Essential Functions:
    1. Work within our organization’s system requirements to plan the flow of supplies in order to maintain production schedule
    2. Create purchase orders for equipment, tooling, MRO, and services as needed
    3. Execute inventory and purchasing strategies and procedures to meet business requirements and achieve measurable savings
    4. Review and update safety stock, reorder point, and order multiple information to maximize material availability and inventory turns
    5. Request quotes from current and new suppliers to maintain competitive sourcing options
    6. Manage any source change activities for assigned products and vendors
    7. Manage supplier and intercompany orders. Responsible for performance and performance reporting of suppliers
    8. Ensure timely delivery of purchased items and inventory replenishment
    9. Manage requirements for domestic and international MRP controlled materials by processing computer generated actions, exception messages and reports and providing forecast updates
    10. Innovate the processes and metrics needed to continuously improve the buying function
    11. Other duties as assigned

  • Able to read and understand prints & diagrams
  • Able to interact with employees and suppliers at all levels in a professional manner
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written (English)
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with strong time management skills
Education and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree with focus in Business Management, Operations or Supply Chain Management.
2-3 Years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
Exposure to ISO9000 manufacturing environment preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office and Industrial ERP Systems preferred.

 
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear.  Approximately 5% travel will be required to meet with vendors. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office.  The noise level is moderate.  The factory floor is in the same building as the office.
